Curl Me Chic

As the only Alpha with curly hair, I can definitely understand how hectic it can be. I used to hate my curls so much, I would spend hours straightening my hair. I would beg my parents to let me perm it straight, but they would always tell me "your natural hair is what fits you best." When I grew older, I realized that, unfortunately, my parents were right (as they usually are, though I hate to admit it). So, I finally gave up trying to fight my curls, and now I love them! Nevertheless, curly hair is no piece of cake, so here are some ways to help tame it.

Different Types Of Curly:

1. Wavy Hair
  • Light: Thin and easy to handle or style, sticks to the head [Celebrity Hair: Scarlett Johansson]
  • Medium: Medium textured, a little resistant to styling but won't bounce up even when layered [Celebrity Hair: Carrie Underwood]
  • Intense: Thick, hard to style, and frizzes easily [Celebrity Hair: Brittany Snow]

2. Curly Hair
  • Light: Big loose curls is S-shapes, can be easily styled in its natural state [Celebrity Hair: AnnaLynne McCord]
  • Medium: Corkscrews curls that are very bouncy, and have the circumference of a sharpie [Celebrity Hair: Melina Kankaredes]
  • Intense: Tight curls with the circumference of a straw and densely packed together [Celebrity Hair: Alicia Keys]

3. Kinky Hair
  • Light: Tightly coiled hair with a very definite curl pattern [Celebrity Hair: Monique Coleman]
  • Intense: Z-pattern curls that bend sharply, rather than in a circular manner [Celebrity Hair: Jill Scott]

How To Cut Your Curls:

1. Wavy Hair
  • Short: For short wavy hair, a recommended hair cut is the romantic bob, which cuts hair shorter than shoulder length, without layering.
  • Medium: Like with long hair, medium length should also be cut in large layers. At this length, you should avoid bobs so that your hair does not drop into an unpleasant triangular shape.
  • Long: For long hair, cut it in long layers (not small ones, to avoid frizzing) and add side-angled bangs for more style.

2. Curly Hair
  • Short: For short curly hair, the most requested and recommended hair cuts are the pixie cut and the chin length style.
  • Medium: If you have curls that are about shoulder length, your best haircut would be slicing your hair shorter at different lengths to create a style and maintain balance among curls.
  • Long: The best hair cut for someone with long curly hair is simple, leave it all at one length. But in order to create volume or some sort of style, trim from the outer layer.

3. Kinky Hair
  • Kinky hair is highly textured and has a lot of curls. For that reason, when cutting such hair, you have to be very careful, because the hair cut does it all. The right one can create much more manageable hair.
  • Short: Layered hair is great for all lengths of kinky hair. For short hair, cut short layers, but make sure your hair stylist or barbers take into account the springing-ness in your hair.
  • Medium: For medium length, do long layers, but be careful not to make them too long. If you do, the shape might look to blunt.
  • Long: With long hair, cut long layers into kinky textured hair.
