I get that this is a very, very weird topic to talk about but when you become sexual active you do explore your body and sexual needs more. I know I did, so I decided to read more about it. For Christmas my sister gave me this book, "Our Bodies, Ourselves" which basically discusses Women's health - mental, physical and social. Since a lot of our lives is centered around relationships and sexuality, the majority of the topics in the book focus on those topics. Masturbation happens to be one of them. Let me make one thing clear - masturbation isn't a bad thing, it's natural and actually a lot of grown women do it. Sure it's weird to talk about it but I'm sure anything to do with sex is a weird topic. Alpha is here to inform, not judge. Okay. Here we go.
"I never even knew about masturbation. When I was 21, a man friend touch me "down there," bringing me to orgasm ( I didn't know that word, either). Then I had a brilliant thought - if he could do it to me, I could do it to me, too. So I did, though it was a long time before I could feel a lot of pleasure and orgasm." -Our Bodies, Ourselves
Like I said, masturbation allows us to explore and experiment with our bodies - learn what turns us on, what arouses us and pleases us. We can learn our own patterns of sexual response without having to think about a partner's needs and opinions. Then, we can teach our partners and help to lead them to where we like it. Through learning to pleasure ourselves, we are more likely to be satisfied with our sex lives overall, and to reach orgasm more easily alone or with a partner. Some even use masturbation as a spiritual experience - a unification of mind, body and spirit or a connection with the divine.
