What To Eat and Drink:

  • Apricots, cheese, carrots, and other foods rich with Vitamin A are good for brittled nails.
  • Almonds and dairy products help strengthen nails.
  • Eat fresh fruits and vegetable daily as they supply your nails with a wide range of nutrients your nails need to stay healthy.
  • Consume foods with silicon and sulfur such as onions and fish.
  • Consume foods with biotin such as nuts and whole grain. This is a crucial nutrient for nail growth.
  • Foods that are high in protein prevent hanging nails.
  • Carrot Juice especially is said to be excellent for nails.
  • Water keeps nails hydrated and smooth.

What To Do:

  • Wear gloves when gardening or doing the dishes to prevent chipping.
  • Keep you hands moisturized. Add some olive oil or petroleum jelly on your nails before you go to bed.
  • File your nails only when they are dry. Be sure to file in only one direction.
  • Avoid using artificial stick on nails.
  • Use good quality nail polish remover.
  • When not using nail polish, put a protective layer on them.

What Your Nails Say About Your Health:

  •  Brittle and concave nails with pale half moons mean that you do not have enough iron, protein, or calcium.
  • External fibrous growth on nails means that you are consuming too much salt.
  • Bluish or yellowish discoloration on nails means you may have respiratory problems.
  • A pale nail bed is a sign of anemia.
  • Peeling nails are a sign of vitamin A deficiency.
  • Zinc deficiencies inhibits proper growth.
  • Thin nails mean you need to increase the amount of fats and oils you consume.
  • Ridges on nails mean that you are consuming too much processed meats and refined foods.
