Where's Our Hollywood Movie?

Superheroes. They're a major hit right now in the film world. Placing an admired cartoon character from the sheets of comic books and then plastering them on the silver screen everywhere seems to be the latest fad. Let's see who made it to the theaters : Superman, Batman, Iron-Man, X-Men, The Green Hornet, Thor, Captain America, Ghost Rider, The Green Lantern, Spiderman, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four - you get the idea. See a pattern among all the names? Oh yeah, the majority are about men. So Hollywood, Where's OUR Superhero movie?

Why do men always get the cool movies?
I can we can really trace this back to the question, Where was our comic? But to tell you the truth, it doesn't really matter if we had a comic or not. I mean, so many of the movies these days have their roots in the comic, but their stories have almost entirely changed. And some of these super hero movies weren't even actual comics, so back to my question: Where's our Superhero movie?? Of course we've had the sexy Halle Berry as Catwoman (as well as Storm in X-Men), the beautiful Jennifer Garner as Elektra, the talented Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux, and the deadly Milla Jovovich in Ultraviolet (an Anime based film). We also have showerings of some amazing women in a group of heros - Fantastic Four, X-Men...but I think you'll agree with me when I say they're not the main hero, their the partner or sidekick. So why can't we actually have a legitimately good movie?

Gorgeous Female Super Heroes who made it to the Big Screens.
Reading an article from the June 2011 issue of Glamour, inspired me to write this post. Glamour interviewed Laeta Kalogridis, the executive producer of Avatar. "The perception at movie studios is they won't be profitable" she states. Even the women hero movies that I stated above didn't really achieve "hero status" like their male counterparts. And guess what, they all sank at the box office - no surprise there. "People often point to them as the examples of female-superhero films that weren't breakout hits...by that logic, the disappointing performance of The Punisher would mean that no male comic book movies should be made either" notes Kalogridis.
Wonder Woman Coming to Theaters?
Many, including Kalogridis have written scripts for the heroine.
Will we see her on the silver screens? Whispers that it will come 2015.
But who will take the role? Megan Fox? What do you think?
I don't think its fair that nerdy weirdo boys get to become this sex manifesto and heroes, while normal, confident women are pushed to the back or damsels in distress. I mean people like seeing strong women! Hello Sigourney Weaver's Ripley! Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider? It really does take only one film to change the whole industry. I mean take a look at what Star Wars has done for the Sci-Fi genre! Hollywood, just give us one chance - with a good director and good script; women know how to kick ass, we want to show the world that.

Bad Ass Women. Yeah, we can kick ass too!
Let Us Prove it.
What do you think?

Love,
ALPHA
