8-Step Perfect Summer Look

Summer looks should be fun, flirty, light and simple! With this 8-Step guide, it will cover your entire make-up needs for the ideal summer look. What you need for this look is: concealer, foundation, bronzer powder or blush, a shimmer eye shadow palette, mascara, and a light lip-stick/lip gloss.

Step 1: Moisturize and Hide!
For fresh looking skin, moisturizer is key. It creates the perfect base for makeup; use the right moisturizer for the needs of your skin (normal, dry, oily). Next, use a corrector or concealer to hide the dark areas under your eyes. Apply concealer only where you need it! Create little strips with a pointed concealer brush, then blend using your finger - don't tug your skin!

Step 2: A Touch of Base
Next is to apply the foundation. Use a brush, sponge or fingers to apply  foundation where the skin needs to be evened out (the nose and mouth is where it is especially red). Be sure to blend your skin in well - you don't want awkward discoloration. To cover blemishes, pimples, or scars go back and hide it with an extra layer of concealer. Make sure to dab this time instead of brushing.

TIP: It's a good idea to have two different shades of foundation - one for the winter and one for the summer, blend the two for spring and fall!

Step 3: Now Blush.
Bronzer and Brush
Since it's summer, don't over blush! Instead apply light layers of bronzer over your face before to add a little more of a natural look. And then add a light peach or soft natural red bronzer. To do this smile! The apples are more visible when you smile, so you know exactly where to apply.

TIP:To add an extra glow, dust a shimmer power on the cheekbones with a brush, even out with fingers.
TIP: Instead of a powder blush, try a cream kind! It's easier to blend with your fingers with a gentle tone.

Dior Eye Shadow Palette
Step 4: Sprinkle Some Shimmer
Apply the first base of eye shadow. This will be a lighter color in the palette (in my case I used the white). Fun fact, a shimmery color helps hide stray  eyebrow hairs if you don't have the time to tweeze!  - Fantastic right! If your skin is fair , try a silvery white shade. For medium to dark skin tones, opt for a champagne color instead.

TIP: To get an extra bright-eyed effect, dot the color onto the inner corners of your eyes too.  (Celebrities use this trick on the red carpet all the time!)
TIP:Oily Eyelids? Use the help of a primer!

Step 5: Add a Little Drama
Use a darker shade (try a bronze or gold cream! I used a deep brown) to give your eyes more depth. Apply from inner corner of your eyes. Stop there and then start blending in (if you want you can use the colors in between the light shade you used as a base and the darker shade - blend, blend, blend!). Try to avoid harsh lines or stripes of color. It should look blended and effortless!

Step 6: Attitude for Your Eyes
Either use the brown eye liner pencil or a thin brush to apply the darker shade along the eye lashes. Smudge and blend this. Add a soft, light shade underneath the eye close to the eye lash.

Doesn't really look like its changed from the last photo, but that's what you want. Natural and subtle.
Step 7: Brush Mascara
Apply your mascara normally! Add some to your bottom lashes too - but don't over do it! You don't wanna look like Twiggy now!!

TIP: For more volume, use a curler before you apply mascara! Start as close to the roots and gentle pulse the curler forward bit by bit to the ends.

Step 8: Pucker Up!

Get as natural as you can - so peach and neutral tones of lipstick, gloss with hardly any colors, or just stick to chap-stick!

I used L'Oreal Peach Fuzz lip stick (417 - Right) and then applied one layer of Burt's Bees Super Shiny Natural Lip Gloss, color: Pucker Berry (Left).

Soft, simple, shimmer = totally the summer feeling. For a great summer eye check out the 'Sequined Eyes' post. Have a great summer!

Love,
ALPHA
