Small Flip Book

If you have a smartphone (or know anyone with a smartphone), chances are, you've been exposed to a certain photo app. called "Instagram". I am a bit crazy with Instagram - I have like close to 900 pictures now, which I know is insane.

I love taking photos - especially on Instagram! But after you take pictures on Instagram there's not much you can do but flip through it on your phone right? Wrong! Today, there are a lot of companies that can take your pictures from Instagram and turn it into actual photos and so much more!

As I was looking through my Pinterest, I noticed a couple of these sites and decided to check some out. I landed on Prinstagram! I wouldn't have ever imagined doing any of these things with my photos - and  bam a website/company that could do it all for me! I really do think it's such a cool idea.

I myself got the 365 calendar! (Yeah...I paid like $50 for it...but it's like really cool and I do have so many instagram photos I like). Which is my second point! Even though I have like 900 photos on instagram I found it so hard to fill up the 365 slots! I had to relook at my photos so many times and it took me forever. In the end I just started clicking photos and because I never realized how many photos I actually cared about (which says something about my Instagram habits). 

Seriously. If you're an Instagram person like me - you really should do something else with your pictures! It's truly great yo.

New Year Resolution #4

put myself out there. 

this of course could mean many things. my first intention with this resolution was for jobs, internships and clubs and such. For example, I just applied for a position as a Senior Planner in one my school's clubs. bam. I also really worked on my resume. awesome. so now to like hunt for jobs/internships. so i freak out a lot about this topic. JOBS. FUTURE. ah. so you know what i'm going to try to start now and put myself out there career wise.

now. a second look on this resolution. last semester I really did put myself out there and looked into Greek life. it worked out. i pledged. and now I'm in an awesome frat. good things like this can really happen but I just need to have faith in myself and stop being afraid of rejection and actually talk to people and not put up this invisible barrier around myself.

New Year Resolution #3

write stuff down yo. 

When I was sleeping the other night I thought to myself, "you know what would be a really smart idea. if you actually wrote things down in a little notebook and it can be anything really so you always have a place to keep your notes and ideas and things." So the next day, I purchased my first Moleskine notebook and it's pretty handy and awesome. 

I LAAAHHHHHHVVVEEE IT. 

It's also like super convenient to have around yo. It's like tiny size so it can like fit in my tiny purse and my pocket if necessary. So far I have written my resolutions thus far, the books i want to read, the books i've read, the book i want to buy, the movies i want to watch, the places i want to visit, a list of james bond movies, classes i need to take to graduate college, summer school information, my shopping list. I'm excited for the year. I hope that I don't stop writing in it! I foresee great plans to be written down. 

Play with words, rewind memories, 

fast-forward project, record ideas, 

pause to think, stop and enjoy.

New Year Resolution #2

i should totally read more.

Reading is important people. and now I have all these glorious books I want to read. I need to make sure that I actually read them though and not let them sit on my bookshelf. I'm already doing well! Finished my first book: Les Miserable! So. yeah. reading. needs to happen this year. and then and then I can list all the books i read this year (of course if I do stick to my resolution). cool.

New Year Resolution #1

Resolutions: something you plan for the rest of the year and hope you stick to it. 

Am I right or am I right? Making grand resolutions are a bit hard soooo I'm just going to randomly make resolutions and write them down places where I will most likely remember. This happens to be my second place to write it down. Awesome. Okay. 

Resolution #1 

(which on this blog should be #2 since I told myself to post more and that would technically be resolution #1 but just go with it). 

wear more colors. 

I'm thinking that for most of you this seems like a silly resolution. For me....well it'll be a challenge. I have the tendency...for a while now... to only wear black. It's not that I'm depressed or goth or stuff like that, I just buy a lot of black clothing mistakenly (but not mistakenly I just like wearing black - it just looks suave and chic to me). 

This resolution is definitely a result from talking with Alpha. She says I wear too much black. Which is totally true. So you know what, I am young and therefore should be wearing a lot more colors (or so people tell me). I have already began my transformation and I will tell you the two things that have been added to my look...for now! 

#1. CHERRY RED DR. MARTENS.

My other pair of black boots that I always wore broke....so now I have these which I will most likely wear everyday. AWESOME. now my outfits will no longer be completely black because I wont have a choice...cause I only like wear boots and my other black boots are heeled...great. 

#2. LUSH HANDMADE COSMETICS: EMOTIONAL BRILLIANCE

Lush is awesome by the way. WELL. if you have this in your local Lush you should try it out (you dont have to actually buy the makeup but it's an interesting process). I have two of these little bottles. The bright pink one that you can see in the middle there (called Passionate) and that blue circle in the far right (called Motivation). The warmer colors are lip and blush and the cooler colors are eye liners or mascara (really though after you buy it you can use it for whatever you want). Basically purchasing these two were a pretty big deal. They are both so bright and colorful and quite lively. My face will loook like a party! (cause even my makeup I only do dark liner and shadow and nude lips) SO I'm taking this resolution to my face too.

I will let you know if I'm living up to my resolution people. 

Side note resolution: just wear your stupid clothes and don't care so much if it doesn't match.

Happy New Year!

1. I know that it has been 2013 for at least seven days now....but Happy New Year anyways! 明けましておめでとう！ことしもよろしくおねがいします！

2. I realize that the last post on the blog was in November -- MY BAD. Sorry for the nonexistence but you know how it is with college life! November is Thanksgiving break and then dive into the end of the semester and finals and everything of that kind and then you go onto winter break where all you want to do is relax. So this leads me to number 3...

3. Resolutions! I have a couple this year and one is to be more diligent with this blog - I will try my hardest to post more and actually write the posts personally (unless there really is a good article that needs to be shared). 

4. Update on Alpha life. 

Well,  its the New Year! Very glad I could open 2013 with Alpha but I'm sure the other Alphas also had a blast welcoming the New Year. Everyone is still at there own places and doing very well (you could even say thriving!). I can't believe that we're almost all at the halfway point in our college lives! That's totally insane if you ask me. Just imagining the next five years always freaks me out so I only try to think one day at a time! Well....I guess this wasn't really an update but just letting you know that Alpha does still exist - just not really on the blogsphere. Sorry! we'll definitely try to do better :)

This brings me to another thought. How rude and horrible people can be....Like honestly, yes people were upset that the President was re-elected but how could you possible use words like "sickening" and  "disgraceful" about a PERSON. The President is a person. A Human Being. Just because he and his party have differing views does not give reason to be cruel and just mean! Really. It's really is tragic and sad. If America is planning to move forward, we really do need to take steps being NICE and KIND to each other. Of course people will always have differing views but there is no reason to be just a horrible person. 

Please. Be kinder and you know what if you have nothing nice to say - yeah, keep it to yourself. I'm tired of hearing people's poison. Just deal with it. 

ALSO Sorry I'm not sorry that I care more about human rights than about other political issues like economics. BOOM. I love my gays and women.

Things Women Do Better Than Men

1. We're cleaner.A study from San Diego State University  found that men’s desks and offices have more germs than women's, with men having anywhere from 10 to 20 percent more bacteria in their workspaces than women.

2. We interview better.A new study out of the University of Western Ontario found that women are better at handling the stress of a job interview. While women get more freaked beforehand about interviewing, we do better in the actual event. Why? We prepare more before the big moment.

3. We evolve hotter.Women are getting better looking through evolution; meanwhile, men are staying the same. After following more than 2,000 people through four decades of life, a study showed that attractive women had 16 percent more children than average-looking girls and that beautiful woman are 36 percent more likely to have a daughter as their firstborn. 

4. We survive car accidents more often.Men are 77 percent more likely to die in a car accident than women, according to a study done by Carnegie Mellon University. 

5. We're better at seeking comfort.A min survey revealed that women are far more likely than men to talk through their problems. Fifty-three percent of women talk to their friends about what's stressing them out, as opposed to 29 percent of men.

6. We're more recession-proof.According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 80 percent of those who have lost their jobs since December 2007 have been men. Ouch. This could be because male-dominated fields have been hit the hardest, like manufacturing and finance. 

7. We graduate college more often.We already know that female enrollment is higher than male, but the Department of Education's statistics reveal that men are also less likely than women to graduate and get their bachelor's degrees. Men are also more likely to take longer than five years to complete their degree.

8. We eat healthier.A survey conducted by the University of Minnesota showed that women choose far healthier foods than men. While men are more likely to chow down on frozen pizza and red meat, women are piling fruits and veggies onto their plates.

9. We have stronger immune systems.If there are little battles going on in our bodies, women have a secret weapon: estrogen. A study done by McGill University indicated that estrogen gives women an edge when it comes to fighting off infections. That's because estrogen confronts a certain enzyme that often hinders the body's first line of defense against bacteria and viruses.

10. We live longer.Among the world's population of those who are over 100 years old, 85 percent are women, according to the New England Centenarian Study. In general, women continue to live five to 10 years longer than men.

11. We're better managers, especially in this economy.Experts are confident that women make greater bosses because they are better listeners, mentors, problem solvers, and multitaskers than their male counterparts. In a recent Daily News article, management expert Jay Forte said, "Women are better connectors than men and more astute about knowing how to activate passion in their employees."

12. We invest better.A study of 100,000 portfolios showed that women's investment returns outperform men's, 18 percent to 11 percent, because women are typically more cautious with their investment decisions and think longer term.

Reflections of the First Year

Done with year one of college. 

Thoughts? Feelings? Regrets? 

I absolutely loved my first year of college. I mean I think I got pretty lucky but let's be really you make your own luck right? (and yeah I did steal that line from the Dark Knight/Harvey Dent). I found all my roommates online through facebook and they turned out to be my best friends in college. Now, I'm not saying it's necessary to be best friends and such but having a good relationship with your roommate is pretty important. Even if it is just saying Hi and Bye. You need someone to be with in your first couple of days so you both can meet people and then find your group of friends. 

So, number two. Be open and meet people. Yeah, everyone is literally in the same boat as you. Many people do not know other people. SO, be that person and go introducing yourself. People will actually be impressed that you have the courage to talk to them (I mean, I don't really remember the people that I met at my orientation but at least I met people and that made me more comfortable). Secondly, go to as many orientation or organization fair thingys. Okay, my school is tiny so it was easy to meet people and go to these fairs. I realize for bigger schools it might be more difficult. So in addition to those two things, actually talk to the people on your floor and in your classes. FOR REAL (especially your classes) My marketing class was all about making groups and believe me you wanna have friends beforehand so you're not that awkward person asking to be in everyone's group. Really, put yourself out there and have fun!

Now, there are many types of "fun" in college. There's the academic and organization fun, the Greek fun, experimental fun, blah blah blah blah blah. The most important thing is to know your limits and your interests. If you're uncomfortable don't do it and don't get dragged in by peer pressure!!! It's okay to be that person that doesn't want to do it - I've been that person and I still have all my friends :) ALSO, use common sense right? Seriously, if you're gonna drink and party in your room you should know the dangers and blah okay? I've gotten a violation - it's not that great but I knew what I was doing and I was stupid. Just be careful and if you can look out for each other. Sex is another thing to be aware of. If you're with your girl friends look out for each other okay - boys really do only think about scoring - so check check check out for each other - RAPE IS REAL. And also, be polite to your roommate if you have a guy over or if she does - come up with some sort of system. 

Thats another point. Talk to your roomie about the little details - cause they matter!!! If you have a problem, grab dinner or coffee and really talk to them. Ignoring the problem is like the worst thing cause then you get even more irritated and blah. 

MONEY. Yeah, most college students are poor. be realistic. constantly check your accounts and yeah go cheap....at least that's what I do. 

FOOD. yeah...dorm food can be gross but...most people don't have an alternative. So, try going healthy? That can mean not drinking soda, maybe cut down on eating meat, skip that pizza for a salad. Also, exercise!! My sister runs to all her classes and activities; I go try to go to the gym everyday. If you're not hungry DONT EAT. The Freshmen 15 is a real thing just saying. 

Finally, work load. Yeah, it's different from regular high school and most people tend to put assignments off. I don't know why you would do that...yeah, I'm one of those good students, but honestly, I hate panicing at the last minute so I always break down my work and I always know due dates - it's a big deal to me!! I have never pulled an all nighter - NEVER. sleep is a huge deal to me and so, do your work people don't slack off. college and university is such a huge opportunity and privilege!! 

HAVE FUN BUT DONT WASTE IT.
