Fun Fearless Females

Wonder Women

All around the world, all over the media, everywhere you go - women have taken this world by force, infiltrating every aspect of society. Women have always been strong (even if you've only heard a handful of famous women in many history books), but today there are strong women everywhere - confident, beautiful and secure. I always love reading editorials from magazines of strong women going out into the world and fighting for what they want. It's so inspiring and it makes me want to be more powerful and self-confident. In reading Kate White's "From the Editor" in the June 2011 Cosmopolitan issue, she discusses her troubles with reluctance to fight for a salary raise and the job she deserved. She states, "Stats show that women are still aren't compensated as well as men are. And in some cases, we're partly to blame, because we don't negotiate for ourselves." By this mere statement   I realize that even though there are strong women out there, we need to be stronger and need more women to realize their potential and strength. We need to be more confident in measuring our worth, speaking up for ourselves, and asking for more. White's final statement continues to echo in my head, "Don't be afraid".

Three Actions to Boost Your Confidence.

1. Body Language
Your body should exude confidence. Chest up, square your shoulders, flash a grin that states, "yeah, I got this" and fight the feeling to look at people for assurance. You'll seem more in control in an instant. Depend on yourself - you're strong you can do it!

2. Don't Sweat the Small Stuff
When things go wrong, brush it off - make it look like it doesn't bug you that much. Moments like these reveal that you're not afraid to let people see who you really are. It's cool, people will appreciate and respect you. If something bothers, pretend like you don't care.

3. Put Your Best Face Forward
Appearing collected and cool on the outside (even if you're about to burst with outrage or nerves or if you're just a complete mess inside) shows people - and yourself - that you don't let anything set you back or let setbacks define you.

Killer Role Models
(in no particular order of course)

1. Angelina Jolie
Let's face it, she's amazing and a total bad ass. Where ever she goes, on and off screen, she just has this determination to achieve her goals - no matter how ridiculous they are. Of course there are things that I don't approve of Angelina (ahem, taking Jennifer Aniston's man), but she's just like that you know? She doesn't follow the rules and she basically does what she wants - which everyone really wants to do. Basically, Angelina Jolie is the epitome of strength and sexy appeal - making her an obvious empowering icon for women. At first I really didn't think she was anything that special (except that she was a total bomb-shell), but then I read her article in the December 2010 Issue of Vogue - she really is extraordinary. The way she lives her life is truly inspiring - she lives by three words : film, family, philanthropy. She happens to be successful in all three aspects if you think about it - her film career is outstanding, shes in major movies and she's an Oscar winner; she has one of the hottest men of all time (Brad Pitt) and her family of six children reveals her compassionate and nurturing maternal side; finally, shes an avid volunteer and since 2001 has been an UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. I know now whenever I need a confidence boost, I'll totally be thinking, "What would Angelina do?"

2. Khloe Kardashian
Not an expected role model for most, here's why Alpha thinks Khloe should be admired. Khloe doesn't boast about being s size 0 or having a skinny waist but one thing she does boast about is loving and respecting herself. I suppose she wishes that sometime she could get healthier in some places, but that doesn't mean she goes crying about it and then starves herself. No, she doesn't let it get to her. She lives her life the way she wants to. Her love doesn't end with herself though, she is a devoted sister and member of her family and receives so much support from friends and boo Lamar. Basically, Khloe is a fountain of confidence - she doesn't let what the media says about her bring her down and as a result she really is on top and has a successful career with her sisters. She's showed us how strong we can be, maybe we should start showing her how strong we can be too. One thing you can clearly take away from Khloe is to love yourself for who you are, and don't let rude comments bring you down. Everyone's beautiful!

3. Jennifer Hudson
I think we can all agree that no one could be as strong as Jennifer Hudson. There are so many reasons why she is an ideal role model. Firstly, her career - she first appeared in American Idol. Although she didn't win, she maintained her fame, she worked hard throughout the competition and it definitely paid off - um, hello Oscar winner! Not winning American Idol has probably been the best thing for her. But even after all the pain and suffering she went through with the murder of her own family - Hudson pulled through. She is so strong, the perfect image of a powerful woman. And now, she's looked up to even more for losing 80 pounds not through surgery or pills - but by actually eating well and exercising. She's inspired so many to become healthy and take care of their bodies. I think she's also helped many to pursue their dreams - she did and look where she is now. I also think she sends out that message the there really is a light at the end of tunnel, everything that she's been through and she still manages to live her own life and take control of it. Bravo, Jennifer, keep inspiring us!

4. Cameron Diaz
Babe and badass: Cameron Diaz is the iconic beach hottie but the difference - she has power. Featured in June 2011 Cosmopolitan the quote on the cover for her? "Cameron Diaz - Why No Man Can Tame This Babe". Reading her article though, you really getting a sense of how wild and secure this woman is. She's one of the hottest women in Hollywood and even with all her fame, no one can control her. She states, "It's my life; I live it the way I want to". Being very independent, she doesn't let a man control what she does or even her future. Cameron isn't man-crazy or looking to settle down yet. Her career is amazing right now - why would she want to settle down? I'm jealous that she can be so focused on herself and not on guys. Clearly she loves herself - a level we all need to get to. And she's not only in power of her own body and life - she is a die hard girlfriend (to her girls not boys!). She is not only very loyal and compassionate to the people she loves, she doesn't mind excitement and adventure. She's full of life and she's not afraid to try something new! So what can we take away from Cameron? Don't take anyone's bull shit, live your own life, don't be afraid to be out there, and be loyal to those you love and who love you back.

5. Emma Stone
Sexy, funny and confident. Woman want to be her, guys want to meet her! Whoever said funny doesn't get you anywhere is totally wrong. Proof? Emma Stone. Not only is she classy but she is completely hilarious. Her dream of becoming an actress began in grade school, and her persistence and optimism led her there. Her qualities on and off the screen just make people love her and want to be around her. She's inspiring because its obvious that she's enjoying herself. She's happy the way she is and well people like that. It's empowering. She really is America's next Sweetheart - and for once its not only based on beauty, its the combination of wit, sass, and ability to be completely her self. Her ability to remain cool and confident is one of the many reasons why she's on our role model list. It's nice to see that a funny woman is on top of Hollywood - especially one that didn't get there because of a scandal, sex tape or because she's dating the hottest man in town. I can't wait to see what she has in store for the future - I hope that her radiance shines over other women in Hollywood - cause they totally need it if you ask me. People say that they use humor to mask their feelings of insecurity, but I think that some humor can help you loosen up and be yourself more. Takes some notes from Emma, I think she can show you how it's done!

Go out there and be a Fun Fearless Female - the world needs more women like you.
Love,
ALPHA
