I'm not going to be a repeating text book or health class that you might have taken - cause that's just boring. I'm just going to say know your limits, be responsible, and use your common sense. If something bad happens, face the problem. If your friend gets sick stay with them, look after them because you know they would do the same for you. Try to avoid drinking and getting high - it can get pretty ugly. Also, try to figure out your tolerance and how much you can drink without loosing complete control. Before drinking decide if you're going home or have a place to crash! (That's key!) Don't drink and drive because the consequences for that can be severe (think about death...) And guess what, it's so true, you will do stupid things - the next morning be prepared to have no memory of what you did and prepare to face the fireworks (if there are any!).
You should know what you're getting into, here are some easy sites to check out.
Well now that we have the serious bit over with - let's talk about the fun aspects =)
I have been exposed to alcohol my whole life - and I'm thankful for that. My parents purposely exposed it to me to understand the affects and the dangers of alcohol. So when I first went "drinking" with my friends I wasn't really scared...and I was in Middle School. I'm happy that I started with cocktails and mix drinks - and I knew that I had to control the amounts to drink because I knew I had to go home after. (Tip: Always have a plan! And a story to tell your parents). From there I was opened to a whole new world: the world of Alcohol.
Living in America, getting alcohol is a lot tougher. You either get a really good fake ID, know someone who is 21 and willing to buy you alcohol or I guess you could smuggle some (but that's kind of trashy!). Many people just get 21 year olds to get them bottles of vodka. To have a fun time with this I would recommend being with friends - and when I say friends, I mean you're closer friends especially if you haven't been drinking that much. The first couple of shots - oh I forgot to mention, when you get a bottle of alcohol and are in high school, you're most likely taking shots and then chasing it down with coke or juice - the first couple of shots are going to taste nasty. After a while, I wont really notice that much cause well you're going to start to fill tipsy and eventually drunk - you might be just drinking from the bottle. (Tip: To avoid the yucky initial taste, drink a sip of your chaser, take the shot and drink more chaser). Honestly, I can trace a lot of fun, good nights to the bottles of Smirnoff.
Lately, Alpha enjoys going to bars and clubs (in Japan it's pretty easy to get around). So the drinks we have are usually cocktails, beers, or small bottled drinks - we still take shots though! All these drinks have a different range of costs, if you want cheaper drinks most bars generally have a Happy Hour - but those hours are usually before all the fun happens, they just want costumers. What's tricky about bars and clubs is that once you start drinking you ease up and then you keep buying drinks - so it can get pretty expensive. But, with the right drinks and right people, it can totally be a night to remember.
So, to conclude, drinking can be a lot of fun - totally, not denying it! But be warned that many bad things can happen around alcohol. Just be smart and take care of yourself and the people you love. I'm sure we'll have stories of how to recover from hangovers or how to prevent them soon, or even how to take care of your sick friends. I mean we already have our favorite cocktails up - and I'm sure if we find new drinks you'll be the first to know.
Go and live your life!
Love,
ALPHA
