I was just going through my daily Coco Perez look through when I saw this story and just laughed! Apparently Chanel has recalled 120 scarves and 34 dresses, skirts, and blouses because they "fail to meet the federal flammability standard for wearing apparel". Whoa! Who knew that clothes could be such a fire hazard?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises Chanel buyers to "immediately stop using the garments" and contact the fashion house for a refund. This is so crazy and unbelievable to me! Like, do you just randomly catch on fire if it gets to hot? Do sparks begin to start if there is too much friction? Once a fire starts, does it immediately go up in flames? So. Many. Questions.
So I did some research. Apparently the garments that are being called back are 100% Silk. The fabric apparently is one of the few proteins that are generally hard to ignite The federal flammability standard says that some fabrics "are potentially dangerous to the wearer because of the speed and intensity of flame with which those fabrics burn and their ease of ignition, and because of the design of the garment." Well who knew there were so many things to worry about besides "Does this look good on me?"
Well, I suppose if this major fashion house had trouble, maybe others might be recalling a few items...don't forget if you ever find yourself on fire because of your clothes - stop, drop and roll!
