Healthy Skin vs. The Sexy Tan

I don't know about the other Alpha mothers, but this Alpha's mother is determined to get it through my head that I constantly need to be protecting the skin I'm in. Skin health has been a major issue the last couple of years due to the surge of people who are getting skin cancer - which to be honest, is a lot of people. But being a young woman who is exposed to media constantly, there is a trend - everyone who has a tan are usually beautiful and sexy. Of course we're brainwashed to think that's the image we want, but it really is horrible for you skin and opens you so many more detrimental things besides possible skin cancer. I guess you can say that I'm gradually being converted to doing the healthier path for my skin.

Many people have already began this step, so what do they do? Slather on sunscreen, stay in the shade, wear a hat. Simple as that, right? If it were that easy then how come skin cancer rates have tripled from 1994 to 2009. Because not enough people are protecting themselves and rather ignore initial warnings. It's back to the image of the tan. Not only do people bathe in the sun for hours to achieve that bronze look, it also creates endorphins that make people feel-good. Yes, you can say that tanning is an addiction. Oh, but please please change!

By the time you're 18, you have already received 23% of your lifetime sun exposure. And then from the ages 19 to 40 you accumulate about 47% (All according to the Skin Cancer Foundation). That's one reason daily protection is so critical - even beyond the beach. So, add sunscreen to you morning skin routine, or make sure your moisturizer contains either zinc oxide or a combination of avobenzone and octocrylene and is SPF 15 or higher. When out, apply two tablespoons of suncreen to your whole body and reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating. Basically, slather on more and reapply, reapply, reapply!

Consumer's Report Top Sunscreens
Okay, tans are bad. period. Whether their from the sun or from a tanning bed, which you should never use. There is never a "safe" tan. Tanning is a way for your body to shield you from harmful radiation, and an outward sign that you have been exposed to damaging rays. People using a tanning bed are 74% more likely to develop melanoma than those who have never used them. So if you use them, stop now! Remember, even if you're inside you can still get sun damage!!

Prepare yourself, be informed of a healthy mole versus a cancerous mole. Just follow the ABCD's.

Protecting your skin not only helps prevent skin cancer, it also helps prevents acne, spots and wrinkles as you age. Acting now not only keeps your skin healthy now, it will also help keep your skin healthy later in the future - a total win win situation if you ask me! If you really do want that tan badly, thanks to many cosmetic companies you can get a tan in a bottle. You might be afraid to use it because of the whole "orange" look you've heard about, but if you get it professionally done it actually looks real. It's all about how you apply it and how do spray tan or lotion correctly. It's really not that bad. Hopefully this "tan" fad will reveal how dangerous it really is.
