Lady Gaga

Love her or hate her, you have to admit you got to respect her. Lady Gaga has graced the media for quite some time and I hardly doubt that she's going to be gone any time soon. Not only has she transformed the music world, but she's challenged the fashion world, brought back the art in performance, and tests almost every aspect of society.

To be honest I wasn't a Gaga fan when she first appeared on the music charts. Her song 'Just Dance' was just too main stream and what I thought was annoying at the time. It was one of those songs that constantly stuck in your head..."Just dance, gonna be okay da da doo doo". I was even revolted by the simplicity of the music video, it seemed like this Lady Gaga was just another one-hit pop wonder. And then her other hit came out, "Poker Face" and then "Love Game". After awhile her songs became weirder, her music videos had more costumes and it became harder to understand the meanings behind her songs. That's when my sister and I discovered that we actually liked her...a lot. She challenged the norm, and clearly acted the way she wanted to. That's why I like her.

The Music.

March 2011 : Vogue
Right now Lady Gaga has released three albums: The Fame, The Fame Monster, and Born This Way. Each actually very different from the other yet have a very Gaga unison. I must admit 'The Fame Monster' is my favorite out of the three. Looking back, 'The Fame' seems to be very 'pop' and all about partying, having sex, and drinking. Nothing truly deep and all simple fun songs. But when 'The Fame Monster' came out, now that was a whole new music sensation. I remember my sister and I purposely driving around just so we could hear 'Alejandro' and 'Telephone'. Honestly, does anybody get what shes saying? I think that's one of the appeals about her music, clearly like poetry, the interpretation is for the listener. I love it. Then comes, "Born This Way". I thought it was appropriate that that single came out the time it did when Gay marriage is being debated about around the US. It seriously will be the gay anthem from now on. But besides that particular song, I didn't really get her new album. "Judas", "Edge of Glory", "Americano", "Government Hooker" - all pretty interesting names, not getting anything about them just dancing. It was really helpful when Gaga was featured in Vogue's March Power Issue. She actually explained the songs and I appreciated them even more! I just think Lady Gaga's music (weird as they may be) is truly inspiring, creative, and very musically put together. Her songs acoustic, with her playing the piano, terrific; she actually has the talent - it blew my mind.

The Performance.
Almost everyone can agree that Lady Gaga has brought back the art into performance (have you seen her Judas music video yet?). I know many artists want their concert or performance to be memorable and unique, but so far none have topped what goes on at the Monster Ball. Clearly Lady Gaga has overflowing passion for what she does. In the March 2011 issue of Vogue, Lady Gaga, the cover girl, reveals this about her love for her fans, "Sometimes, being onstage is like having sex with my fans...They're the only people on the planet who in an instant can make me just lose it". She obviously conquers this with her interesting, new and vivacious dance moves, outfits and other performance choices. I would just die to see her perform live! I could seriously watch her videos over and over no matter how weird they are.

The Fashion.

Why yes, I do believe we all know that Lady Gaga has the most peculiar fashion sense. But let's face it, she can pull it off. So instead of writing about it let's see her just rock it.

If you haven't notice, I am a dear fan of Lady Gaga. Or what she would call, "her Little Monster". She is such an inspiration and her passion for performance and music is just extraordinary to me. She really is a person I look up too and admire. The following quote is just a small complexity to what is Lady Gaga:

"I want for people in the universe, my fans, and otherwise, to essentially use me as an escape...I am the jester to the kingdom. I am the route out. I am the excuse to explore your identity. To be exactly who you are and to feel unafraid. To not judge yourself, to not hate yourself" - Lady Gaga
Vogue March 2011

You many not like Lady Gaga, but common you have to appreciate her uniqueness and independence. Respect her because she different. Cause baby, she was born that way.

Love,
ALPHA
