Theater: War Horse

War Horse is a play based on Michael Morpurgo's book of the same name. The play takes place in Devon, the countryside of England, at the outbreak of World War I. Joey is the beloved horse owned by Albert Narracott but is sold into the cavalry and is soon shipped to France. Joey serves in the British and German armies and befriends Topthorn, another army horse. Both horses get caught up in enemy fire; death, disease and fat take Joey on an extraordinary odyssey. After serving on both sides, he finds himself alone in No Man's Land. However, Albert hasn't forgotten about Joey. He is still not old enough to enlist in the army, but he embarks on a dangerous mission to find his beloved horse and bring him home to Devon.

A truly heart wrenching story about the bond of friendship and loyalty. It's interesting to see the journey of a mere horse in the thresholds of battle. It will surly bring tears to the viewers who will watch it. And the way the horses are portrayed on stage is truly amazing - the movements just look like they are real horses! See for yourself below!

War Horse premiered on October 17,. 2007 in South Bank, London and then transferred to the West End 's New London Theater in 2009, and shows are still being performed. The play came to Broadway on March 15, 2011 and opened in April. It was scheduled to close on June 26, 2011 but do to the popularity (and the amazing success at the Tony's!) the play is now an open-ended show! At the Tony Awards, it won all five of the nominations including; Best Play, Best Direction of a Play, Best Scenic Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Play, and Best Sound Design of a Play.

The Horses.
I do really want to see this play (no matter how sad it is!). It just looks so remarkable - I even want to read the book; it sounds so interesting! Do check it out!

Love,
ALPHA
