Broadway: Anything Goes

The latest version of the musical Anything Goes has received critical acclaim, just look at all the thumbs up at "Did He Like It". Even at this years Tony Awards, it won three including Best Musical Revival against How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Anything Goes is a musical with the music and lyrics by the amazing Cole Porter. The whole story is aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to Long. Okay here's the story basically - Billy Crocker, who is a stowaway, is in love with heiress Hope Harcourt. But Hope is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh. So, the nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy #13 Moonface Martin try to help Billy win the love of Hope. Not that complicated right?

The musical first debuted in 1934 on Broadway. In 1962 there was an Off-Broadway revival and then it was back on Broadway in 1987. And then it came back once again in 2011 with the fantastic Sutton Foster playing Reno Sweeney (She also won the Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical in the 2011 Tony Awards). This production is actually suppose to end at the end of this month, but now it will probably extend past January 2012 - I hope I can see it, I just love classic Broadway musicals!

The Tony Awards 2011, the final song from the musical:
"Anything Goes!"

I really feel that people always overlook musicals and Broadway, saying that it doesn't seem that hard. Are you serious? I think Broadway performers are the most talented and hardest working entertainers in the whole business! They have to sing, dance and act  - perfectly, accurately, 8 times a week. And it's always live - there are no retakes or edits . It's also amazing because no show is ever the same, it's always different, always getting better. That's what I love about Broadway and live theater! Even if it's the same show, it's always a new experience. Especially this show! I mean look at all that tapping; it's fantastic! It makes me want to jump up and dance.

Seriously, I need to figure out when I can see this show!
Love,
ALPHA
