This past weekend, a few of my roommates and I went to DayGlow. Many don't really know what it is, so let me tell you. It is one of the largest paint parties. Yes, PAINT. And then on top of that it's like a rave, there's tons of techno, electronic and dance music - basically you go cray-cray. Let me tell you about my experience.
Okay, well first of all we had to go to the DayGlow in Worcester...and well that is pretty much a sketch town. Honestly, people will tell you to never go to Worcester for any reason. Well after our one and a half hour journey we came to a beautifully done train station...and then we walked outside...It was seriously like a ghost town with some interestingly sketch buildings. We had quite a lot of time to kill so we decided to get something to eat. At first we were going to go to this Pizza place this traffic cop suggested - oh boy was it creepy. Thank god there was a decent Subway across the street!!
7:30 - it's thirty minutes until the doors open. And there's already a huge line. Everyone wearing white and neon colors. You'd think this would be like a gay fest (just saying) but I couldn't believe all the bros and hoes that were actually there. For real, BRO after BRO after BRO after BRO and on and on and on. Ugh!! So we finally reach the door. WARNING: you actually can't/shouldn't bring any sort of bag. Like nothing. And if you try to sneak something in, you will most likely be caught. There are like three people who pat you down to search for things. My roommates tried to bring cameras - that was a clear no no. TIP!! Put your phone and things in ziplock bags! - it'll get wet!!
Now we're inside. Music is playing but still no paint. So we decide to join the others in the huge mass. An hour later we surrounded by people and are being pushed around. BE SURE to stay with your friends - use the buddy system!! Okay, so we're surrounded and are actually being pushed to the front. We were pushed so far that we were literally at the front of the stage. Oh dear lordy it was hot and people were sweating - and people were actually getting roudy and putting up fights! It was so bad!! And then, we found out we had to wait another hour for the actual paint to start...
This wasn't that bad though (besides the angry people) there was music and entertainment - really some cool performances. Well, people are stil sweaty and honestly we had to just wait it out. (They even skipped 20 minutes on the countdown!). The DayGlow people were setting up and everything - we could see the paint and we were getting anxious. Then finally, they screamed "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME PAINT?...3...2...1...!!" Paint from all over came flying down. People with squirt guns spraying people, people with buckets of paint, people with bottles just shaking it around. Being at the very front - we got the bucket in the FACE.
If you do decide to go, cover your eyes and mouth!! And be prepared the paint on the face does BURN. After that first round of paint, we decided that we didn't want to be there and we got pulled up from the crowd - thank god! Okay, after the shower of paint we looked to see what else there was. And be aware, we're drenched in blue paint - it's seriously all over (in my hair in my clothes - EVERYWHERE). At the back, there was free juice and free body art - which we indulged in both! And then we stayed in the back of the crowd where more people sprayed more colors on us. Now that was the best part.
Still deciding on whether you should go? Well, let me tell you I did have a good time - the first two hours were hell - but the rest of the time was actually pretty fun and a great time! I probably wouldn't want to go again but it was quite an experience - maybe not really worth the price though...or the 1 1/2 hour trip....but if you like to go crazy = this is probably the place for you.
Love,
ALPHA
