Makeup is an inevitable part of Alpha's lives. We all use the same basics, but our styles are different from Alpha to Alpha. Makeup over the years have changed dramatically - yet not one is better than the over. In the 21st century, people love to change up their makeup and flashback to the 20s, 30s, 40s, and so on.
Makeup of the 20s
The 20s, known as the "Roaring Twenties," was a time where art and culture became a dynamic part of people's everyday lives. People became more wealthy and luxurious as the 20s went by and people were known to be more ignorant than before. In terms of art, "Art Deco," a type of architecture was popularized and the U.S. used that architecture to build the Chrysler Building. Expressionism and surrealism developed in this era as well. Now, in terms of make up, the popular style was heavily lined eyes with tiny dark lips - this was a sign that women were modern and liberated.
HOW TO:
1. Apply foundation to give your skin a smooth and creamy look. I personally love to use Clinique's Derma White (it also has SPF!)
2. Use a eyebrow pencil that is slightly darker than your natural color, and darken your eyebrows and draw them slightly downward.
3. Apply a dark grey-based eyeshadow from your lash line to crease. Use black pencil (or liquid if you prefer) to your top and bottom lashes.
4. Apply BLACK mascara to both top and bottom lashes.
5. Rub blush into the apples of your cheek, make it look like you just walked in from the cold.
6. Apply dark red lipstick to finish up your great 20s look!
Makeup of the 30s
The 30s was when the Great Depression took place, but that did not stop people from watching the glorified Hollywood stars on the big screen. The look captures a sultry movie star like style.
HOW TO:
1. Apply foundation covering all the blemishes and unevenness in your skin. Try a lighter foundation for a spot on 30s look.
2. Tweeze your eyebrows so they are very thin, then define them using a brow pencil. (Optional if you don't want to lose your eyebrows)
3. Slap on a metallic eyeshadow that allows you to give a smokey finish to it. In the 30s, shiny eyelids were quite popular. Blend your eyeshadow from lash line to crease so it looks like your eye sockets are deep into your head.
4. Curl both top and bottom lashes and cover then with BLACK mascara. Then glue on false eyelashes to your top lashes and run it over once more with the same mascara.
5. Using a soft pink colored blush, blend it into the apples of your cheek.
6. Finish up your 30s look with a matte red lipstick.
Makeup of the 40s
The women of the 40s were known as "naturally beautiful" - soft and feminine. The old Hollywood look is one that a lot of women recreate, like Dita von Teese!
HOW TO:
1. Apply foundation as usual (your skin tone).
2. Shape and define your eyebrows with a brow pencil or powder - they should be perfectly arched.
3. Apply sheer eyeshadow. Don't make it too heavy because the 40s are focused heavily on the lashes.
4. Curl your lashes and lightly coat your lashes with black mascara. Glue false lashes on your upper lashes to truly define your lashes.
5. Use black liquid liner along where your false lashes meet your lash line - keep the line fine and even.
6. Apply rosy blush onto the apples of your cheeks.
7. For the lipstick, use tomato red or orange red - those were the quite popular shades.
Makeup of the 50s
"Perfection and Glamour" should be the trademark of the 50s face. Marilyn Monroe flaunted this makeup impeccably.
HOW TO:
1. Smooth on foundation that gives your skin a nice finish.
2. Eyebrows in the 50s were thick and maintained. Groom them to a nice shape, and fill in your eyebrows with a brow pencil or powder.
3. Use a soft and shimmery eyeshadow (like a champagne color) - apply it from lash line to brow bones.
4. Curl your eyelashes and apply black mascara. Apply false lashes to your top lashes - they should look voluminous but not fake.
5. Using black liquid eyeliner, create a cat-eye with tiny wings extended and the end of your lash line.
6. Apply a soft rosy blush to the apples of your cheeks.
7. Use a vibrant shade of red (like coral or redish-pink) on your lips. Apply the color thoroughly. You top lip should look slightly larger than your bottom lip.
